o.o ..nnnnnngh. Oh Desmond. And Alex is panicking a bit and fighting the split, trying to get through Desmond's pain and fear (A: Desmond, Desmond no!) to get Desmond to calm down and stop trying to (in effect) kill himself. So Alex and Desmond are competing for control of the viral matter, and Alex wins hands down for experience reasons etc, and Desmond finds himself trapped in a body that's locked up, either flat-out not responding or somewhat non-responsive and viral matter coiling around him holding him immobile. With Alex babbling(yes he can babble XD He actually talks a lot to 'Cross' before they go out to get Taggart, if you think about it) in his head to calm down and that he's literally killing himself and helping the infection to spread at the same time (active = spreading).
