Seira looked across at the movement in the corner of her eye. Tao in his nekomata form was padding over. He looked up at her and meowed.

She smiled at that, though she kept stirring the pot. "I'm not giving you anything to snack on — dinner will be ready soon." Tao had given her the 'kitten eyes' enough times that she'd developed some immunity to them.

Tao stopped by her feet and meowed again.

"I'm still not going to give you anything. Especially when you're that small." A snack when he was that size would fill him for hours.

Tao didn't say or do anything for a few seconds, and then padded off in the direction he'd come from.

With Tao gone, Seira focused on cooking again.

M-21 looked up at his bedroom door opening. A small furry head poked in and M-21 sighed as Tao started exploring the edges of his room.

"Tao," he said, getting to his feet, "you're not going to find your birthday present in here." He knew better to take something Tao was interested with into the house where Tao could see everything.

Tao's ears pinned on him and when M-21 scooped him up, Tao squirmed until he petted him.

"This is what you really wanted, isn't it?" M-21 said as he shook his head, a small smile on his lips. Though Tao would have also wanted to his presents.

Tao curled up on his lap when M-21 sat back down on his bed, purring as M-21 continued petting him. "Playing innocent now, tch." M-21 shook his head while he picked up his book. He wouldn't mind doing this for a little while.

When Regis went back to the table, a glass of milk in his hand, he frowned at Tao, who had decided to not only disturb his homework notes, but also that they were the best place for a nap.

"Tao," he said, setting the glass down, "I should finish this as soon as possible." Before he was given more homework. There seemed to be a never ending stream of it.

Tao didn't move, apart from curl up further.

He had done most of the exercises on -

"Nice to know you wouldn't shove me off if I got in your way," Regis heard, but Tao's voice was from behind him, not the kitten, "but you do know that's not me, right?"

"How-?" Regis spluttered, whirling around. Tao was leaning an elbow on the doorframe him in human form, a number of shopping bags by his feet. He was also grinning wide, like he'd caught someone in a joke.

When Regis glanced back at the kitten, they still looked the same as Tao, the markings in the same place. Had Tao — no, while the kitten had a white tip on their tail, it wasn't forked like Tao's.

"I - apologise-"

Tao waved a hand, snickering as he walked over. "Nah, I think I would have gotten confused too." He picked the kitten up in both hands, making the kitten meow. "So how did you get in here, huh? Who's a sneaky kitten that confused Regis?" Tao brought the kitten close to his own face and bumped foreheads with the kitten.

"We need to find out where you came from, don't we?" Tao continued, walking off and collecting his shopping. "But if I can't, the puppy could be getting a new playmate! That sounds exciting, doesn't it?"

Regis sat down at the table, wanting to rub his temple like he'd seen the Houseowner do a few times. How embarrassing to not realise the kitten wasn't Tao, but Tao hadn't seemed offended at the slight.

Next time he would check in more detail, especially if Tao was deciding to adopt the kitten. But until then, he had homework to complete.
