Summary: M-21 was…tense. Both in how he moved and his thoughts. He twitched at unexpected noises, and his thoughts flickered from one subject to the other, always checking the windows and doors.

M-21 was…tense. Both in how he moved and his thoughts. He twitched at unexpected noises, and his thoughts flickered from one subject to the other, always checking the windows and doors.

M-21 was staring down the road from the balcony, watching for movement. As soon as Rai started walking up the stairs, M-21′s attention was on him, listening.
M-21′s back was still to him when Rai reached the next floor but M-21 was aware he was there.
Hm…
“You will not be hurt here,” Rai said. Would that help?
M-21 let out a sharp laugh. “I’m under your roof, right? Your roof, your rules — you can do whatever the fuck you want to me.” [Still better than what those bastards would do-]
Rai blinked. “That was not what I meant. But…you are correct.” Vicious acceptance. Along with underlying fear and dread. “You are under our roof, so, you are under our protection.” M-21 froze. “We will not allow you to be hurt by others.” By the ones M-21 kept a lookout for.
“Tch.” M-21 pushed himself away from the balcony, shoving his hands in his pockets as he walked away. “Yeah, that’s what you say now.” [Everyone lies.]
M-21 was gone before Rai could respond, but… Some of the tenseness had eased from M-21′s thoughts, at least.
For now, hopefully that would be enough.
