Dana had a question, Alex knew that much with how much she was fidgeting, but they had been sitting there for a few minutes now, saying nothing, staring off into space. There were distant sounds of helicopters and explosions but they weren't near enough to be considered a threat. Not yet, but Alex stood up slowly, feeling restless, not wanting to chance that.

With a sigh, Dana put down her cup of coffee, tilting her head up at him. "Soooo…you can fly."

Alex froze and turned to stare at her. How had she – his eyes flicked to the still-on computer, and right there on the screen was a picture of him passing overhead, and while his face obscured, his clothes were not; it wouldn't have been hard for Dana to recognise him.

"I…" he started uncomfortably, not sure how or what to say but Dana merely raised an eyebrow and Alex winced, recognising that she wouldn't accept any lies or twistings of the truth. "I don't fly," he near mumbled, "I glide."

She cocked her head at him, frowning. "Either way, that doesn't explain your lack of wings."

Wings? No, he didn't need wings to get where he wanted to go but even as he thought that, Alex could feel the biomass slither and form of their own accord, gathering around his back, shaping themselves to rise high above his head before dropping down past his knees.

Alex had watched Dana throughout the entire transformation but she hadn't scrambled back or screamed at the sight of him like everyone else had done when they had seen what his body had become. Her eyes had only widened in surprise and that was quickly replaced with curiosity. The biomass didn't settle though, and with a thought, one of the wings curled around Alex, revealing itself to still be in its black and red writhing form, constantly moving.

He cautiously tested the wings out, flapping them, the entire sensation feeling more instinctual than usual – and halted when some parts of the biomass broke free from the force of the movement, one globule hitting Dana's cup, causing it to shatter.

They stared at the mess, the biomass meekly reabsorbing itself into Alex's body while they did so.

The silence that followed stretched and stretched, and Alex squirmed, entirely sure that was all him, nothing else. He was not going to test his abilities anywhere near Dana again, he was sure of that.

"Well, it was your turn to clean up anyway," Dana said, eyeing the bits of biomass that appeared to have turned themselves into darts. "You know where the dustpan is, right?"

Alex nodded slowly, his eyes drifting over to where he thought it was hidden.

There was another explosion, far closer than the previous ones, rattling everything in the room. He paused, not liking the implications of that. A few seconds later, the drone of helicopters started to make themselves known again.

Dana was already typing on the computer, windows popping up and disappearing faster than Alex could make sense of. "The dustpan will be here when you get back," she told him, waving at him.

A few short minutes later, Alex stood on top of the building, pinpointing where exactly the destruction was happening. It wasn't hard to find, but he hesitated for a second, wondering what mode of travel he should do before he decided that he wouldn't attempt flying at that particular moment. Or possibly at any time unless he was going to attack. His mind made, Alex jumped off the building.
