Desmond could feel a headache coming on as he climbed out of a rift, the bright sunlight searing his eyeballs not helping at all. Why had subject sixteen also inserted puzzles into them? It was hard enough trying to find some of them in the first place!

Making sure he had a good enough foothold, Desmond checked to make sure that no guards had sighted him.

When he saw one, patrolling with his back to him, Desmond couldn't help but gape, nearly falling off the roof in the process.

"Uh, Rebecca…?"

"Working on it! There must have been something in the file…"

He could hear the faint echo of Rebecca tapping away, so Desmond made his way down to street level, hoping that had been a one-off. It wasn't – every single person that Desmond could see had a pair of wings sprouting from their back. it wasn't uniform either, ranging from stubby black ones that were the size of Desmond's palm to a multi-coloured set that looked as if they weighed as much as the person they were attached to. Feathered wings, membraned wings, wings with claws and spikes on them…

And everyone was acting as if they weren't there.

Desmond suddenly realised his shadow was different from what it was normally, and he uneasily glanced over his shoulder. Golden brown was the first thing that he registered, long feathers being the second, and if Desmond were to guess, he had a feeling that he had a pair of eagle wings strapped to his back.

"Going to try flying with them?" Shaun asked.

He stared at the wings for a few seconds, willing them to move, but they didn't even twitch. "So you can see me flail to my death?"

"Well – no – we see that often enough anyway."

"Hey, actually, that might work!"

"What, Desmond killing himself for our entertainment?"

"Yeah – not like that!" There was a brief scuffle, ending with Shaun yelping. "If you desynchronise, Baby would have to load back in from a previous checkpoint, so that should fix this. Buuut it's probably best you get out; we don't want to accidently fry your brain or something – who knows what else could happen."

Desmond nodded, wincing at that image, the world around him already disintegrating. And he really hoped he had misheard Rebecca mutter something about hoping the glitch hadn't affected his ability to get out.
