Shaun threw a hand at his alarm, hoping he could whack the right button; he did, the incessant beeping finally cutting off. He grumbled as he grabbed his glasses and slid them onto his nose.

His sleep hadn't been restful but... Hang on. Shaun frowned, staring at his hands. Why had he been dreaming he was Leonardo da Vinci? Which, all right, wasn't that strange, all things considered, but still. Shaun could have sworn he felt the sun in his dreams, smell the paints Leonardo had been using, the feel of wood under his hands.

And the dream was still a little too clear in Shaun's mind for his comfort, the details and images not fading like they normally would. Including...

Including...

Oh bloody hell.

Shaun threw the blanket off and stormed out his bedroom, finding Ezio the only thing on his mind.

It didn't take long -there were only so many places he could be- and Shaun stalked up to Ezio, one hand already balling into a fist.

"Shaun?" Ezio peered at him, his eyebrows drawn in concern, coffee cup in his hand.

He swung at Ezio, except Ezio dodged with ease. Of course. Shaun was pretty sure the coffee wouldn't have even rippled.

"I cannot believe he-!" Shaun did not flail at Ezio - he gestured. Angrily.

"Who, Shaun?" Ezio asked him carefully, setting his cup down. Well, at least he was making sure his coffee wasn't going to be in any danger.

"Leonardo! He - He-!" Shaun was not going to be reduced to incoherent gibberish so he took a breath and started again. "He used the Apple to reincarnate himself!"

Ezio looked at him with clear confusion on his face. "You're not making sense."

Shaun placed a palm on his forehead, screwing his eyes shut. "When Leonardo had contact the Apple," he said tightly, "it showed him things: machines, theoretical ideas... Oh, and it showed him the future; specifically, this one."

Ezio gaped at him, realisation dawning in his wide eyes. "Oh, shit."

He nodded, glad he wouldn't have to waste too much time explaining. "Yeah. He reincarnated himself for you and here's the best part: I'm his reincarnation."

Silence was Ezio's reply. And that face of shock along with buried loneliness was the reason why Leonardo had done this: to make sure his friend was all right in these strange times, even if he had to go there himself.

With a sigh, Shaun threw his arms around Ezio, hugging him tightly. It didn't feel wrong as much as off, Leonardo's memories not quite matching Shaun's current experience, unsurprisingly, but when Ezio's stiffness melted and hugged him back, Shaun thought things might start looking up.

There was suddenly a flash and Ezio jerked away from him, his hidden blade sliding free with a snap. Shaun span around to see Lucy and Rebecca standing at the doorway.

Rebecca was wielding a camera, a triumphant grin on her face.

"Got one for the scrapbook!" she crowed.

For the scrap… Shaun realised he and Ezio had been hugging. And he was in his boxers.

"T-This isn't what it looks like!"

"Pfft. We know that." Rebecca rolled her eyes as she pocketed the camera. "It was still kinda cute though, if you ask me."

It took Shaun a moment to recollect himself. "Yeah? No-one's asking you," Shaun said as he headed towards Rebecca, his hand outstretched. "The camera. Now."

Rebecca just laughed as she ducked out of view.
