Side Effect [Part 21]

Summary: It's a full moon and Takeo hasn't seen either Tao or M-21 for a while.

Takeo glanced out the window as he went down the stairs. Rain pelted the pane, dark clouds covering every inch of sky available.
The storm had been going for a while now and Takeo hadn't seen either Tao or M-21 during that time, and that worried him. Especially as it was a full moon as well.
They hadn't been in their bedrooms, and Takeo turned his head towards a yowl in the living room.
The lights were on and he pushed the door open.
"M, I know it's scary-" Takeo heard, Tao's voice reedier than usual. He had to be in his nekomata form. "-but it's a lightning storm! That's my element! It's safe!"
A growl answered him and when Takeo got to the sofa, he saw a wolf curled there, a black and white tail flicking underneath him.
M-21 perked up at the sight of Takeo, thumping his tail on the sofa.
"Someone there?" Tao asked. "Help?"
Before Takeo could reply, lightning flashed from the window and M-21 snarled, baring his teeth at it. He curled even more on top of – the two lumps under him. There was a brown lump between M-21's front legs.
Takeo went to the window and shut the blinds and windows as the roll of thunder made itself known. When he finished, he went back to the sofa, where M-21 was staring up at him, whining.
"I can't stop the storm," Takeo said, sitting down next to him, "but that should help."
M-21 closed his eyes when Takeo petted his head and scratched behind his ears.
"You might be able to get out now, Tao," Takeo said, and watched as Tao wriggled his way out. He shook himself, dodged M-21 and leaped for Takeo's lap.
"See?" Tao said and Takeo patted M-21's snout to stop him from collecting Tao again. "I'm fine, and Takeo'll protect us from the big mean storm, right?"
"Yeah," Takeo said when M-21 looked at him.
M-21 sighed and then rested his head on Takeo's leg.
"Why didn't you change back?" Takeo asked as he petted M-21 again. That would have made getting away easier.
Tao looked up and him and stuck his tongue out, his ears pulling back at the same time. "You try focusing on your regular form when half your body is being sat on."
Takeo smiled, which made Tao bat his thigh. "You can change back now." M-21 wasn't asleep, but he was more relaxed.
"Pet me."
So that's why he hadn't changed yet. With a shake of his head, Takeo started to scratch between Tao's ears.
At least the puppy wasn't wanting the same; he only had two hands…

Inspired by this post. I would have also drawn the Side Effect version of it, but the thought of that was making me not write, so I thought it was better if I just wrote it than delaying it over and over again, haha.
