M-21 has conflicted thoughts about the children. Yeah, okay, they’re protected and not dead. That’s good, he guesses.

They’re still the cause for M-24’s death. If it hadn’t been for them, M-24 would still be alive, but then, they would still be leashed to the Union, with no chance of ever escaping.

It’s because of them he’s free of the Union.

And the children aren’t even aware of what had happened, what they had caused. They don’t remember, and they’re completely oblivious to what they’d gone through.

They’re like him in some ways, their memories taken from them against their will. But they’re happy. They’re not even aware they’re missing a few hours, the lies told to them filling in the gaps.

To them, nothing’s wrong.

They’re not grieving for someone they lost.
