OMG, I've actually written something again for this!
The paragraphs here gave me a massive headache.
Not sure I've actually hit 'anguish' - probably more 'musing'. =P
The writing's very... bitty.
Genre: General

Prompt: 109 - Anguish

Damnit, damnit, damnit.

It had to be lying. There were on another world? Ha. It was playing with them, like it had been before.

They were on the other side of the planet, that was all. 'But how did we end up here?' one part of Ed's brain asked rebelliously. Not rebelliously; it was the scientific side that always asked questions. Except it must have taken a leap for the past two weeks because why was it only asking now?

Stupid... Every difference they'd attributed to being half-way across the world was also applicable to being on another planet. But why should they believe it?

Circles, circles, circles. That was what his thoughts were going through with no way of getting out of it. They were maybe on another world but they couldn't ask anyone because of the language barrier. That being was the first 'person' who'd talked to them in their own language here. Sure, Al was there but it was so friggin' isolating hearing all these words from the conversations around them and understanding only one word or one phrase. Iruka and Lee had helped, but it wasn't quick enough; they were nowhere near having a proper, un-stilted conversation yet.

Ed sighed and slouched further on the headboard. Al was sleeping soundly beside him but he had woken up for some reason and couldn't get back to sleep again. So he was stuck twisting things around in his head by himself.

Deciding spontaneously, Ed slipped off the bed and hopped towards the window. When he reached it, he leaned on the window-sill to catch his breath.

Had he done any kind of exercise since they'd been here? None. The two weeks had been spent lying in a bed or sitting in a wheelchair. It wasn't as if he could do that much, but it still annoyed him that just hopping across a room had tired him so much.

He stared out the window, up at the stars. He didn't know any of the constellations, apart from a few names and that was it. Who knew if this sky was the same as the one back home.

If - if that being was telling the truth, how were they going to get back home? It had offered to send them back, but for a price. It hadn't said what the price was. The tone that it'd used when offering alone was enough to make them wary of accepting.

Which left them stuck here with maybe no way of getting back home. How the hell they'd get home from one side of the planet was hard enough to think of, especially since they didn't anything to use as payment. So what was it asking for, then?

Equivalent exchange. What did they have that would equal the piece of crossing worlds? Except... equivalent exchange was a rule that existed on their world. They'd already seen that the Alchemy here –chakra, his mind supplied- didn't follow the same rules. So maybe, just maybe, they could have a solution here to use. They could use the fact that they were on another planet to their advantage.

If he could remember the right words and figure out the hand movements to get his point across, that is. Well, there was just enough light from the stars above and the streets below to read through their notes without the lamp on. Ed began hopping back to bed, feeling much calmer since he'd first seen that being.

They would do this their own way, not for the amusement of a being that probably sent them there in the first place.
