Rating: K
Notes: The other prompt that I wanted to do for Creative Writing: Write a short story based on any one of the following first lines: e) The river took a sharp bend at that point...
Definitely a sequel, rather than another stand alone. Not to mention, I'm supposed to write at least 900 words for it.
I should probably start getting back to writing longer chapters - or back to Fullmetal Ninja...

The river took a sharp bend at that point, and he wondered if he should follow or cross it. It wasn't like he knew where either way would lead him, so it depended on whether he wanted to stay dry or get wet, if he wanted to be able to be tracked or not. That was, if he were to believe all those escape movies that had the escapees being chased by dogs, or if crossing a river actually worked in confusing them. Knowing them though, he just hoped he didn't have some sort of tracking device under his skin or something like that.

The sun was starting to peak over the trees and there wasn't that much cloud cover so it wouldn't take him that long to dry, but he was still wary about going in. The river wasn't that wide and it didn't look that deep either, but if there were any animals in there... He could see them, yeah, little spots of light blues and yellows, but his sight didn't tell him if what he was looking were poisonous or not.

It would be better not to risk it.

Instead, he waded into the river until the water reached his shins, keeping an eye on the coloured blobs -they'd swam away as soon as he'd disturbed the water but they were coming back already- and then just stood there, revelling in the coolness seeping through him. Even though he’d been there for a few seconds, his feet were already feeling much cleaner and he was feeling slightly more refreshed and relaxed.

The water looked so clear… He crouched, but when the river nearly overbalanced him he got down on one knee to keep him steady. That felt better – apart from the pebbles that were now digging into him. He cupped some water and drank - or attempted to, before he spat it out straight away. Right, clean his hands first before trying that again. He stayed there before a few minutes, just feeling the water flow around him, trying to regain some energy and drinking the water. That done, he brushed off what excess water he could before he started to follow the river again.

Keep going or rest for the night? His body screamed for rest, wanting nothing more than to just fall where he was. His legs had gotten to the point where they were mechanically moving him forward with no sign of stopping. He was so hungry that it had made him lightheaded a long time ago and it was starting to throw off his co-ordination; he’d gotten used to them, but the headache wasn’t something that he could ignore so easily.

He didn’t know what he could eat though. The wilderness around him didn’t exactly look like they had apples or pears hanging from trees – there were bushes with berries, but he couldn’t test them and wait to see if he could keep them down or not, or if he had any reactions to them. No time to and he had no idea if there were other people searching for him, or how close they were.

The other option made him queasy. There was no way he was going to be able to catch anything that lived here and if he did, how was he going to kill and eat it? It wasn’t like he had any knives or anything that he could use – that had been rather low in priority when he’d gotten out.

So, had he escaped from there, just to die of starvation?

All things considered, in his opinion, he was much better off out here. His stomach wasn’t agreeing so much.
