Searching [Extra]

Fandom: Original fiction
Summary: Marland gets hurt. The expected happens.
Rating: K
Notes: This was going to be part of the romance AU, but then I wanted to write actual Marland and Shodin, so I adapted the scene so that it fitted more the original universe. So this is more a missing scene than anything else.
Have found that I've lost Marland's voice, waaaaaaa. D: I need to re-read Searching.
Mid-Searching, of course. Because that was all the happy times. :(
Genre: General
Word count: 535
Status: Complete
"I said," Marland snarled, brushing Shodin's hand away before it could reach him again, "I'm fine."
"And you say you're 'fine' no matter what happens to you," Shodin pressed, dogging his steps into the flat. "You were shot at."
"It missed," Marland retorted, ears flat, making his way to where the chocolate was. He'd been able to dodge out the way and the pellet... thing hadn't come close. "And I'm normally attacked by an Other; it's my job."
"Then a bit of the building fell on top of you."
His ears went even flatter and Marland ducked his head before he could stop himself. "It... wasn't that big."
"It was bigger than my foot; I checked while we were waiting for Laris and Nav." Shodin had his arms crossed and both his eyebrows were raised in patient scepticism.
"'m fine," Marland repeated, not as heatedly as before. He threw a couple of pieces of chocolate in his mouth and went to the sink. Shodin was leaning right next to it when he got there and Marland mutely glared at him.
"Can I at least look at it?"
Blowing a sigh through his teeth, Marland started running the tap, but as he started filling his glass, he turned away from Shodin and spread his wings a little, exposing his back. "It hit around my wings." If he didn't give in now, Shodin would just keep going until he did.
"Hmm. I can see that," Shodin murmured. "Tell me if this hurts."
If what - Marland tensed at the light brush of fingers on the membrane of his wings.
"Sore?"
"No." Marland shook his head. "Surprised." He eyed his glass of water, not sure if he should risk trying to drink if it might end up making himself choke. Which would then be another thing that would make Shodin hover over him. He set the glass down.
There were more light touches, skimming around where his wings connected with his back. While it didn't hurt, Marland wasn't exactly used to, or comfortable with, the sensation so he kept half-edging away before forcing himself back.
Eventually Shodin stopped and Marland shook out his wings to relax them after they'd been held in a position that wasn't normal to them for a while.
"It looks like you have some bruising and scratches," Shodin said, his voice distracted and Marland tried to turn around. A warm hand on his wing stopped him. "I'm not finished." Marland could hear the amusement in his tone. He sighed again and kept still, ears flicking back and forth.
This time it wasn't so obvious when Shodin started, but when Marland did feel something, it was like Shodin had been actively putting pressure there. Marland was already growling before he realised it and he'd practically leapt from Shodin as well.
Ears sinking down, Marland tried to step back.
"No, it's okay." Shodin came into view a few seconds later. "You're not actually bleeding and your scales protected you from getting too injured." He ran his fingers through his ponytail. "I can't do anything about the bruising, really."
Marland looked at him, one ear up. "So, no bandaging?"
Lips twitching, Shodin said, "No bandaging."
Hmph. Good.
