So this was where Desmond's long and prestigious lineage of strong magic users got him – staring through the eyes of his ancestors without the use of a spell, and he was reacting to them, trying to defend himself in the way that he'd been taught as soon as he could stand, even though he knew-

The pull of magic was stronger than he expected, leaving him gasping and scrabbling, hoping that the fucking summon wouldn't drain him dry (the actual summon not killing him would be a nice bonus too, but he knew his life and his shitty luck).

It finally stopped, leaving him just enough energy to breathe and Desmond felt the weight of the spell, felt it connect to something before light seared the back of his eyeballs.

There was a mass of black and red in front of him when his vision eventually cleared.

…But at least his hallucinations had stopped. Or they'd just changed and kept going because that was a lot of tentacles.

Desmond looked up and gaped at the black wings spread out from the demon's back. Oh…fuck.

Red and black tentacles for legs, black wings, and a hood that would have obscured the demon's face if Desmond hadn't been flat on his back. How the hell had he summoned Alex, the plague that could wipe out an entire city in the space of a few hours if he felt like it?

'Why have I been summoned?'

'Accident?' Oh, shit, even better - they could talk directly mind to mind so there was no way he could even try to pretend that he had some grand scheme for Alex all planned out.

Or maybe he and everyone else around him weren't going to die an excruciating death, not when Alex's first reactions were to smirk and lean forward to study him properly, amusement curling down their bond.
