"Ajussi!"
M-21 turned at the familiar shout, hearing Takeo and Tao stop ahead of him. It was the children running to catch up with them and M-21 spied the extra bag in Yuna's grasp. He couldn't see what was inside, but it had to be a jumper from how it filled the bag and swung with little weight.
"You're feeling better!"
"Ah, yeah." He nodded. So that was the excuse this time. He ached still, but he could move and that was what mattered.
"Uhm, here," Yuna said, dipping her hand into her bag and pulled out a-
What.
M-21 heard Tao's cut off snicker.
It was a wolf toy. It was about the length of his forearm and made in a sitting position.
She held the wolf out to him in both hands, her head bowed.
M-21 took it from her and was saved from responding by the bell.
"Ack!" Shinwoo grabbed Ik-han's arm and yanked him down the street. "We're late!"
"Bye, ajussi, hyungs!" Yuna said before following the other two.
M stared down at the toy.
"So," Tao said, leaning an elbow on M-21's shoulder, "What're you gonna do with it?"
"What do I do with it?" He knew what to do with board games, not this.
"Play with it, of course! Make adventures!"
M-21 snorted, walking towards the school again. "We have enough of those."
"Heh, true."
"You can sleep with it," Takeo said. When M-21 looked over, Takeo's gaze was distant. "I used to get some for – my sister. She said they helped her sleep."
Ah.
M-21 tucked the toy under his arm as they entered the school grounds. He would figure out what to do with it later.
* * *
When M-21 went to his room that night to change out of his uniform, he put the toy on his desk. He left it there when he went to the living room.
* * *
A few hours later, M-21 returned to his room. He changed into his night clothes but when he turned to his bed, he stopped.
The wolf toy was there, on top of his pillow. M-21 glanced at his desk in case there were now two in his room.
His desk was empty.
M-21 sighed, picking the toy up. "Tao…" he muttered. Of course he would sneak into his room and move it there.
He wasn't going to sleep with it. He set the toy back on his desk and went to bed.
* * *
The next night, the toy was in front of his pillow.
With a roll of his eyes, M-21 put the toy on his desk again before going to bed.
* * *
M-21 scowled the day after, seeing the toy now tucked in his bed. He stalked from his room and headed to the living room, where he'd last seen Tao.
Tao was in the living room like he'd thought, sitting next to Takeo, and Raizel-nim was in the kitchen area in front of the coffee machine.
"Yo!" Tao called out with a wave and M-21 scowled more.
"Stop going into my room and moving the toy."
Tao's arm stopped in mid-air, Tao's eyes going wide. "Eh?" He waved his hands in front of him. "Woah, for once, that's not me! Honest!" Tao shook his head. "Why would I wanna move M-Junior?"
…It was too bad he hadn't brought 'M-Junior' with him because then he could have thrown it in Tao's face for calling it that.
"Uhm…"
M-21 froze and he glanced over at Raizel-nim. Wait. "…It was you?"
Raizel-nim nodded.
"O-oh. Okay." He'd thought- "Ah, sorry," he said, spinning on his heel and leaving. He made it to the stairs.
"Hey, M!" He stopped at the call, but didn't turn around. "Heh," Tao said, nudging his elbow with his own. "I ain't mad, don't worry."
M-21 sighed, scrunching his eyes closed. "I'm used to you being the one messing about in my room." He thought Tao would be the only one.
"I did that once!"
M-21 looked at him.
"Okay, twice." Tao stuck his tongue out at him. "You hafta admit your room was better after that."
"No."
"Fine, fine." Tao shook his head. "But yeah, no hard feelings for the accusation."
"And now I have to worry about the person who did move the toy," M-21 muttered.
"He seems fine," Tao said, humming. "He was drinking his coffee when I left."
"Hn." If he'd hurt Raizel-nim's feelings, Frankenstein would have appeared out of nowhere by now, right?
"I'm going to bed," M-21 grumbled. The toy mystery was solved anyway.
"Night!"
When M-21 got to his room, he gazed at the toy and then sighed. He changed and put the toy on his bedside table before going to bed.
* * *
The toy was still on his bedside table when M-21 went to bed the next day.
He stared at it as he lay in bed. It was a toy. There was no reason to sleep with it. There wasn't a reason not to either.
It wasn't like the others would know anyway.
M-21 picked it up and pulled it under the blanket with him.
He wrinkled his nose as some of the fur went up it as he breathed, but it tickled for only a second. It was weird to have something filling his vision, but when nothing happened, M-21 drifted off to sleep.
* * *
The next night, M-21 stared at his bed. He'd left the toy on top of his pillow after making his bed, so it wasn't strange seeing that there.
The second wolf toy sitting next to it was.
He sighed, closing his door. So long as it stayed at two, that would be all right.
