Frankenstein walked up the stairs from his lab, the lights switching off as he left.
He'd made some progress with his research but-
He tensed at a crash. It was the yelp that followed a second after that made Frankenstein pause instead, rushing over in the direction of the sound.
It had come from the direction of the living room… The door was ajar when Frankenstein reached it, and the lights were out. Hm.
When Frankenstein opened the door, he caught sight of the broken teacup smashed on the floor, but he heard the brief sound of claws on the tiles before it stopped.
Given how the teacup was in between the islands…
Frankenstein approached it, deciding against turning the lights on just yet.
The cup had been empty when it had fallen, and beyond that, pressed up against the corner was a grey wolf. Clothes were strewn between the wolf and the cup. The scar cutting across the right side of the wolf's snout made it clear who it was, and Frankenstein hadn't been sure if this was going to happen to M-21. He hadn't been able to get much information about werewolves and their transformations from Muzaka during his short visits.
As soon as Frankenstein made eye contact, the M-21's ears flattened against his skull and he peeled his lips back, baring sharp fangs. When Frankenstein took a step closer to tidy the cup away, M-21 snarled at him, every muscle tensing.
Hm. That wasn't going to work.
When Frankenstein backed up a step, the snarl softened to a continuous growl. It stayed constant even when Frankenstein looked away at the window.
Frankenstein didn't do anything and the growl tapered off, sniffing replacing the sound. The click of claws approached him and Frankenstein turned his palm towards M-21 so he could sniff it easier.
He watched M-21 through the corner of his eyes as he got closer, picking his paws around the teacup shards. M-21 leaned forward towards his hand and when Frankenstein didn't move, M-21 stepped closer, his ears easing up.
M-21's nose was wet when he sniffed around Frankenstein's hand.
"M-21," Frankenstein said, keeping his voice soft.
M-21 jerked away, snapping his head to look up at him.
Frankenstein smiled, still not facing him. "Would you like to go to bed?" He wasn't sure how much M-21 could understand in that form, but maybe…
He received a head tilt at that.
"Bed?" Frankenstein tried again.
This time, M-21 perked up, rumbling in his throat. It may have been M-21 trying to say something to him – he would need to do further research if this was going to be a repeat occurrence.
When Frankenstein turned around and left the living room, M-21 trotted close to his heels.
It didn't take long to reach M-21's bedroom and once Frankenstein opened the door, M-21 rushed in, his movements smoother than earlier. Except M-21 paused halfway and looked back at him.
"Hm?"
M-21 wagged his tail, backing up a step and still watching him.
"Do you want me to come in?"
M-21 nodded, snuffling at him.
Frankenstein walked into M-21's room and M-21 hurried to his bed, hoping into it and curling up there. He kept watching Frankenstein, tail thumping on his bed. When Frankenstein sat next to him, M-21 pressed up to him.
Hm, given how much time had already passed and how long M-21 could hold his normal transformation… Frankenstein lifted up a part of the blanket, smiling.
Before he said anything, M-21 stood up and wriggled into the space, laying his head on the pillow.
M-21 looked at him and then wriggled as close as he could get.
"Do you want something?"
M-21 nodded, looking at his hand and ah, that must be it. Frankenstein reached over, making his movement slow in case he had misread M-21's request.
M-21 closed his eyes and sighed, leaning into Frankenstein's palm and it did seem M-21 wanted to be petted.
A few minutes later, M-21's breathing evened as he slept and he had transformed back with no difficulties.
Frankenstein stood up, straightening the blanket around M-21 and left his room, closing the door behind him.
Now he could clean up the mess in the kitchen as well as give M-21 his clothes back. Once he was done with that, he could go back to his lab to see if he could glean more information from M-21's data.
