M-21 was howling at the moon. At least, that was what Tao assumed he was doing, since there was a wall between them and the sound was too soft for M-21 to be giving it his all. It was quiet enough that the others shouldn't hear it, but Tao he rolled out of bed. If M-21 was upset, he should go over and see what was wrong.
M-21's howl cut off as soon as Tao opened the door and Tao had his arms full of wolf a second after. "Hey to you too," Tao said as M-21 tried to lick the entire bottom half of his face. "What's up? Aside from the both of us, heh."
M-21 tilted his head back and howled. Once he was done, he looked at Tao, flicking an ear.
Tao couldn't stop his yawn first. "Awooo."
M-21's ears flattened and he dropped out of Tao's grasp, not looking at him.
"Not good enough, huh?" M-21 made a confirmation growl. "Okay, okay, gimmie a sec and I'll give it a second go, okay?"
Tao cleared his throat and sat down next to M-21, who turned his head enough just to make eye contact and then turned away again.
"Yes, Mr. Grumpy pants, I'm gonna do it. Don't be so impatient." Tao grinned as he stroked M-21's ruff and M-21 leaned into his touch. "Arooo-!" He had tilted his head back to do it like M-21, though he kept the volume down too. "How's that?"
Tao was nearly knocked flat as M-21 rushed over again, his tail wagging. "I'll take that as a -mmf!- better!"
He laughed as M-21 curled up on his lap and Tao started scratching his back. "You want me to stay then? Are you going to stay in my lap, or do you want to go to bed?" It didn't make much difference to Tao, but his legs would be dead by the time the sun rose.
M-21 huffed, his other ear twitching down, and Tao guessed that meant M-21 didn't mind either. He wrapped his arms around M-21 and picked him up; M-21 wriggled for a second, adjusting the placement of a paw before settling down.
Tao set M-21 down on the bed and when he lifted the blanket up, M-21 dived underneath, twisting so his head was close to the pillow.
When Tao was inside and he raised an arm, M-21 squeezed closer and Tao draped his arm around him. He yawned and M-21 followed a second later, flashing his fangs.
"Oh, what big teeth you have," Tao murmured just before he dropped off to sleep.
* * *
M-21 was naked. That was the first thing he noticed. The second thing he noticed was he wasn't alone in his bed. The third was his nose told him that the person he was sharing his bed with was Tao.
What...? They were tangled up together, their limbs over each other, and M-21 could feel cloth against his skin. So he was naked while Tao wasn't. He also couldn't remember going to bed the night before, so the wolf must had taken over. That seemed to be the simplest answer.
When M-21 tried to get his arm back, Tao stirred, his eyebrows scrunching closer. "Mmn...?"
"Morning," M-21 said, and Tao's eyes snapped open.
"M-!" Tao blinked twice and then took his arms back, waving them in small circles. "You were instinctual and howling last night — but not loudly! I don't think you woke the others up."
M-21 looked at Tao, who chuckled and scratched the corner of his mouth. "Well, I've got better hearing than them, so..."
Still. "Sorry."
Tao flicked a hand. "S'fine. You just wanted someone to howl with."
That was worse in some ways.
M-21 stilled when Tao rested his hand on his head, patting him a few times. What-?
"...Uh." Tao coughed and took his hand back. "Habit..."
He grimaced, but he couldn't blame Tao if the wolf had wanted attention. "Do you think I'll do it again the next time?" he asked instead as he sat up, trying to find where his clothes were.
"Dunno," Tao said. M-21 heard Tao's joints crack, seeing movement from the corner of his eyes. "Maybe. I think you were just lonely."
M-21 glanced at Tao, the question on his tongue.
Tao grinned, nodding. "Me an' Takeo can stay with you next time."
M-21 relaxed. "Thank you."
