He was hungry. He wasn’t sure when he last ate, but he needed food now.
He raised his head, his nose twitching. There was something in the air, something edible, and he stalked down the stairs, keeping his ears pricked for any other noises.
He couldn’t hear anything and he nosed the door open to the eating area.
There it was, on the counter. Whatever ‘it’ was, but he could smell it and he could see it.
He huffed, pacing back and forth as he kept the food in his sight. He wasn’t supposed to put his paws on the counter, but just this once… Once he had his fill, he wouldn’t do it again.
He turned around and pushed himself onto his back paws, bracing his front paws on the edge of the counter. He leaned in, jaws open and his fangs ready to sink into the food.
He froze, making eye-contact with Cool-and-metal. He’d been seen!
Maybe if he- She wouldn’t stop staring at him, unmoving.
Slowly, Cool-and-metal still staring at him, he flattened his ears and closed his mouth. He looked away with a small whine, licking his lips to hopefully appease her before dropping back down to the floor.
“The pie is still hot, M-21,” Cool-and-metal said, walking around the counter to scratch him behind the ears.
“Hnnng.” That didn’t matter. He would still eat it. He could take it.
“I could make you something else.”
He perked up at that as Cool-and-metal turned to take a book from a shelf.
“But you’ll need to pick it,” she said, heading for the sofa.
He followed her, tail wagging.
