“Uh… Tao?”

“Mm?” Tao turned his head towards Takeo, keeping his eyes on the monitors. “What’s up?”

Takeo didn’t say anything, which was weird, so Tao looked over. And gasped. “You got a puppy!” A small grey one with big ears and bigger paws. “Hi!” He lifted the bundle of fur from Takeo’s grasp, giving the puppy a good rub.

“Did ya get them from the street? Does Boss or Rai-nim know?” They had to — Takeo wouldn’t have brought a new puppy in without asking first. The puppy nipped at his fingers but didn’t do anything worse than that, the tail wagging.

“No… I found them in the house.”

“In the house?” That was weird. “Did ya dig yer way in, huh?” His systems should have notified him if there had been an…intruder…

Tao stared at the very distinctive scar across the right side of the puppy’s snout.

“Uhm.”

“Yeah.”

“How did he fit to be that size?” Tao burst out. The pup - M-21 wasn’t even longer than his forearm! “Where did the rest of him go?” Was there some magical transforming space where his extra mass went when he transformed?

“I don’t think that matters, Tao…” Takeo said with a sigh.

“It totally matters,” Tao said, wrapping his arms around M-21, who wriggled a little, but didn’t try to escape. It was partially so he could double check that M-21′s mass was only in the puppy and not a projection so he only looked smaller. But also because M-21′s fur was so soft. “We need to know how he did it!”

“He can’t tell us.”

“Not right now but-” Tao huffed into M-21′s fur. “Okay, okay, check in with Boss first. He probably knows anyway.” He had to — he was the boss. Then all their very important questions could be answered.
