Tao hummed as he tapped on his laptop, curled up on the sofa. He turned his head slightly, hearing the living room door open and the click of claws on the floor following after it.
The puppy was chewing on a toy in front of him, so that left only -
“Oof!”
-a transformed M-21, who hopped onto his lap, going right over the sofa armrest.
“Hey, you,” Tao said with a smile, giving M-21′s presented furry belly a rub.
He got a soft grumble as a reply, as well as a stretch, so Tao could have access to everything.
Tao still wasn’t sure how much M-21′s instinctual self intersected with his human personality — he seemed to act like himself when instinctual, but then there was this, where M-21 demanded attention, hugs and physical contact, and that wasn’t something M-21 did when he was himself.
To double-check he wasn’t just assuming, Tao lifted his hand away from M-21.
A second later, M-21 whined, lifting his head to look at him, and then pawed at his arm when Tao didn’t return his hand.
M-21 relaxed when Tao started scratching his belly again, making Tao smile. It was something M-21 wanted, at least.
Maybe it was something M-21 wanted when he was himself as well, but he didn’t want to ask. Whatever the answer was, M-21 wanted it now, and Tao was going to make sure he got it.
