Tao hummed, wiping some dust off his hands. “Finally,” he said. “All done.” He finished cleaning his house and found all the loose coins that had rolled away from him months ago.

He turned around-

And stopped, staring.

He’d collected all his coins into a pile. Which was now covered by something living. Something silver, scaled, and with wings.

“Uh,” he said, still blinking, “hi?”

The small dragon narrowed its eyes at him. “What do you want?”

“Weeell,” Tao said, scratching the side of his neck, checking around the room. Aha, an open window. Had it flown in from there? “You’re kinda lying-” Oh. Wait a minute. This was bad. “-on my-”

The dragon hissed, curling up tighter around the pile of coins, flaring its wings. “My shiny.”

A dragon had decided his coins were its hoard, and a dragon vehemently protected their hoard. Even if they were only the size of Tao’s palm.

Not a situation Tao had predicted because he’d cleaned his house.
