Because I want to write them being happy and pretty comfortable with each other.
Can't I just... write this 'verse instead? D: Please? Loooook, Marland's so much happier! Well, he's still extremely awkward but definitely a lot more content and relaxed than dragonhybrid!Marland. Except they aren't Marland and Shodin, are they? :(
Puzz? Uuuuh... I don't think he exists here? D:
My tenses are aaaaall over the place here. Ugh.

Shodin was an inherently touchy person, Marland found out the first time they shared a bed. Not that they'd actually done anything, just slept together, and that was awkward enough. Most of the night was spent hyper-aware of the body lying next to him, hearing every single one of Shodin's deep breaths, feeling the other man's hair tickling his cheek - and that was before Shodin had rolled over, ending up half on top of him, an arm draped across Marland's chest.
He had frozen, expecting Shodin to wake up instantly, but he didn't. He still hadn't figured out what Shodin's little sigh and pressing to get closer meant, hours later. But he'd been asleep when he'd done that, so it was probably nothing.
Marland must have eventually dozed off, because the next thing he knew he was startling into wakefulness, almost shoving the weight on him away out of sheer instinct. Shodin merely scrunched up his face before opening his eyes, smiling down at him muzzily.
"Mornin'," Shodin said, voice thick through a yawn. And Shodin didn't move away but, well, snuggled up to him, tightening his arm in a wide embrace. "Ngh, you're so warm."
"I'm, uh, normally warm when I wake up?"
"Heh. Nice t'know I've got a personal hot water bottle."
After a pause where Marland debated all the different responses he could do, he settled on poking Shodin in the forehead.
Shodin snickered, batting at his hand.
"You didn't..." Marland pursed his lips, cutting himself off. The answer was obvious, so there wasn't any point in - Shodin was running a finger down his arm, trailing little shapes on his skin. He couldn't make much sense of them, except they were vaguely circle-like, and his attention just zeroed in on it, a sensation he wasn't used to.
"Hm?"
"Doesn't matter."
He got a poke in the shoulder. "Obviously it does."
Trying to turn your head away didn't really work when the distance between the person you were talking to was about two centimetres. It took him a couple of seconds to collect his thoughts, put them in order. "You didn't used to... touch like this." He didn't used to touch at all. Now, it was like there was always a part of Shodin touching him, a hand on his shoulder as they passed, a knee touching his as they sat at the table, their shoulders bumping while they cooked a meal.
The smile he got in return was soft, Shodin breathing a huff. "You didn't like me touching you, so I didn't."
Oh.
Shodin shook his head, his hair falling into Marland's face. Gah, it felt like he was going to sneeze because of that. While Marland rubbed his nose, Shodin got up and stretched.
"So, breakfast?" he asked over his shoulder, smile stretched into a grin.
Marland returned it with a small smile of his own. "Yeah."
