Summary: Marland is sending mixed signals…

Notes: Contains a sex scene on the TV.
Muahaha! Reboot of the Romance AU! XD And it's from Shodin's pov. D:
So, basic information: Marland's asexual, but doesn't know it, and is a night security guard; Shodin was found beaten-up on Marland's doorstep and when Shodin recovered… Actually, this probably carries on from there. XD; Shodin also has amnesia.Damn, now I want to write the first time Shodin and Marland meet. And then I will probably have to reboot the universe again.
Fun to write but then I hit a brick wall and just stared at the paper for about half-an-hour. XD;

Marland was sending Shodin mixed signals. He couldn't quite tell if Marland actually wanted to go out with him or if Marland was consciously aware of what he was doing. Like, Marland didn't exactly relax around him, but the other man was definitely more closed off when he was with other people, but if Shodin tried to get close to him physically, Marland kept his distance.
Marland was a pretty awkward person in general though, so maybe…
Maybe he should just ask him.

Shodin took a deep breath, feeling his heart race in nervousness and anticipation. He didn't know how Marland would react, but he was fairly sure that in the worst case scenario, it wouldn't be disgust.
Marland had woken up an hour ago and had had his cup of coffee as well, so he was finally properly awake and able to hold a conversation that wasn't him blearily staring at Shodin. There was a curl of Marland's hair that stuck up away from the direction that the rest of his hair went, which Shodin found endearing, and part of him itched to reach across the table and see if he could smooth it down. Later, hopefully. If not, then he'd just tell him; Marland probably wouldn't care and just leave it as it was.
And now he was just avoiding the issue and distracting himself.
Well…now was as good a time to ask as any.
"Marland," Shodin said slowly, curling his fingers around his empty mug. When he was certain he had Marland's attention, he ploughed on before he could overthink things. "Do you want to go out?"
Marland studied him for a few seconds, bemusement written all over his face. It definitely wasn't disgust, much to Shodin's relief. "Yeah."
Really? Elation filled Shodin and he released a shaky laugh. Marland hadn't spent that much time thinking about it and-
"What film you thinkin' about?"
-What? "I – uh…" Words completely failed Shodin and disappointment crashed inside him. Marland didn't want…? "I…don't really have anything in mind," he eventually said, stumbling over the words. Out of all the possible reactions Shodin had envisioned, that had not been one of them.
"Well," Marland mused as he reached for his coat at the back of his chair, "guess we'll see what's there."
"Yeah…"

Going to watch the film had been…uneventful. The actual film wasn't, filled with explosions, gunfire and humans triumphing over the alien horde but as for the rest of it... Marland had leaned over a couple of times, their shoulders brushing, to make a sarcastic remark in his ear, but that was it. Not that Shodin had really been expecting anything after the response he received to his question, but still.
Any time Shodin had 'accidently' touched him, Marland had moved away to accommodate him – nothing more, nothing less.
Shodin had seen him around other people though – Marland always kept a certain distance between himself and other people and Shodin was definitely allowed into that bubble, at least for a little while until Marland noticed him there. When he did, Marland moved to keep the distance between them, just not with the same amount of wary guardedness he had with other people.
Which meant what, exactly?
Just that Marland was comfortable with him. Except Marland didn't let his other friends that close to him either. And Kendal had said herself that Marland had opened up to him faster than he had with anyone else.
Shodin sighed, running his fingers through his ponytail. It was probably for the best if he watched Marland a bit more; maybe he'd completely misread everything.

The next time Marland had some days off, they sat on the couch watching some spy movie while they had dinner. Shodin wasn't too interested in it, with all the sneaking around, but then – ah. The spy had saved the world, killed the bad guy, and rescued the female love interest. With no other danger or obstacles in the way –what had happened to the rest of the guards?- the spy and the love interest proceeded to find the closest available flat surface and start tearing each other's clothes off.
Shodin sighed, leaning back as he chewed on the last mouthful of chicken pie. That was the film over, apart from the next few minutes. There could be a cliffhanger ending, but Shodin didn't particularly care if there was one or not.
By that point, apart from a conveniently placed piece of debris, the two characters were completely naked and moaning loudly at every thrust.
Ignoring the sounds, Shodin turned to Marland to ask if he wanted to switch channels. Except Marland was staring at him, a puzzled frown on his face. As soon as they made eye contact, Marland jerked away; without facing him, Marland got up with his plate in his hand and practically fled to the kitchen area.
Okay, what did that mean?

A couple of days later, Shodin gave up trying to figure Marland out. There were just too many contradictions for him to understand.
Staring out the window, watching the clouds above the buildings, Shodin came to a decision. He'd already tried asking Marland out, but that had been misinterpreted.
So maybe he had to do it in the simplest way possible that said on no uncertain terms what he meant.

My brain kept breaking at the sex scene and after it. XD;; *tries to write* *fails* *stares* *tries to write* *fails* Could not wrap my head around it and then just gave up and continued writing. Sooo…Shodin's gay and wasn't attracted to the spy or the straight sex. Is my excuse. .____.
I totally wanted to put a line about them making a system of signals so they know what the other person is trying to say. XD

KADFL;A Marland mistaking Shodin's question as merely going out to the movies... poor Shodin!
Haha, that movie they were watching at the end doesn't sound very romantic or sexy.
Are you continuing from where this leaves off? But oh, that status says "complete". :3 It feels like the next scene should happen right after this though, since Shodin hasn't gotten through to Marland yet with what he actually meant!

XD;;;; Every time I read through this, I cringed at that line. Ah, poor Shodin!
But - but he saved her from death! And they totally - pfffft, don't want to continue. There was a film I'd watched kinda recently where the romance was really badly tacked on; I think the main character and the love interest had spent...hm, was it the Robin Hood movie? o____o;; That wasn't very recent. Anyway. XD;; The two characters had interacted with each other in a few scenes, treating each other normally and then they kiss! Wait, what? Where had that come from?
XD; Yep! This is where I get confused at my header, because this part is finished, but the overall plot-thing isn't. And I think I'll be thinking of the Romance AU as parts rather than having an overall structure. And I don't know if this will ever get a fully complete tag, because I have no idea how this could end. So I guess I'll just be using the work in progress tag. X3; *ramble ramble*
